Georgetown, Kentucky, USA
[Sister city agreement in 1990]

Besides an exchange student project where junior high school aged students participate, Tahara City receives ALT (Assistant Language Teachers ) teachers from Georgetown College and engages in other active exchange activities. Tahara’s Kite Preservation Society has a branch office in Kentucky and private citizens of the two towns engage in exchange activities too.

Reciprocal visits of people from both sides started back in 1985 when the Japan-Korea Friendship Association of Tahara and the Korea-Japan Friendship Association of Dongjak-gu concluded a sisterhood agreement. Exchange of friendship has been promoted actively also on the private basis for example, in a case of goodwill matches by boys soccer teams.

Succeeding the friendship agreement signed by previous Akabane-town in 1993, such projects as the mutual dispatch of junior high school students, invitation of trainees, or other, are promoted.

Friendship exchange started using the occasion of the Tahara Plant of Toyota Motor Corporation became the parent plant of the Indiana Toyota Plant. Junior high school students are dispatched under a project of the City.

International exchange of high schools in the City

Sisterhood ties-up are held between Aichi Prefectural Seisho High School and Scott High School, Georgetown, U.S.A., and between Aichi Prefectural Atsumi Agricultural High School and Welant College, Kingdom of the Netherlands.
